Gail lives and works full time as a painter in Cambridge (UK). She achieved a first class BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art at Exeter College of Art and Design in 1981, after which she lived in Madrid for a year returning to England to give birth to her first child. She has been working as a painter consistently ever since along wth raising a family and spending time in Andalucia, Italy and France.
She loves to collaborate and exhibit with other artists, as well as having solo shows both locally and in London, Scandinavia and Spain.
Her work reflects a world of memory and dream. She is inspired by the natural world and how it touches one at a deeper level. She grew up in Cornwall – whose wild beauty is a strong influence as is the light and colour of Andalucia. Her ancestors are from Cordoba, hence her name. Living and working in Cambridgeshire, the ever-changing skies and flat watery strips of land are perfect for dreaming and reflecting.
She is passionate about the process of painting and works very intuitively building up layers of different materials, which can include plaster, paper and both acrylic and oil paint. She loves playing with the tactile qualities of the materials and also the illusory aspects of painting. She finds the process transformational and she really lives each painting as she makes it.
She says, the most exiting moment is when a painting takes on a life of its own, and she can never quite predict when this will happen. She then has to surrender to it and let it take her where she needs to go.
Since coming to Subud® and the latihan her paintings have changed profoundly to reflect her own spiritual journey. The works are lighter and have much more space in them.
